This cache is designed to allow local residents and visitors to the Grand Traverse area a location to drop off and pick up Travel Bugs with the hopes that another cacher can help them on their journey. Please note that this is not a conventional cache, there are no trinkets to swap, just Travel Bugs and a logbook.
If you do not intend to log your visit at the geocaching.com website, then please DO NOT TAKE A TRAVEL BUG. The travel bugs progress requires you to log its being taken from this cache and being placed in the next cache.
If you are willing to log your part of the journey for a travel bug and place it in another geocache as soon as possible, then by all means take it. If you need help in logging a travel bug, please email me.
Why a bug hotel?
- You picked up a bug somewhere and realized you cannot help in its goal so you need an easily accessible place to drop it so maybe someone else can.
- You are feeling a little guilty about that bug you have been holding on to for weeks.
- You are about to travel and want to grab a bug to help along its journey.
- You are in from out-of-town and want an easy pickup/drop-off spot.
- You have a new bug to release and you need a good cache to place it in.
How to use the hotel:
- Check in guests by signing the logbook with Name of Guest (TB) and details of its travel goals.
- There is no requirement to leave a TB in order to take a TB.
- Look for a TB goal you can help with.
- Take more than one if it's REALLY justified.
- Please try to update this site and the travel bug site as quickly as possible to avoid other disappointed visitors.
- Cache contains some extra zip-lock baggies for the comfort of the TB, use one if you need one.
- Log your first visit to the hotel as a “Found” and any subsequent visits to drop off or pick up travel bugs as a “Note”.
- Add this cache to your watch list so you will be notified when guests arrive or depart.
Location:
- The hotel is located about one mile from the busiest retail district in the Grand Traverse area.
- Park in the abandoned Rest Area parking lot off highway US-31.
- Take a short walk up the steps.

Hotel Rules:
- Guests may check in 24 hours a day.
- This is a self-service check in, payment by credit card only.
- No loud music after 10:00 PM.
- No alcohol or smoking in the rooms.
- Guests must respect the privacy of others at all times.
- Disorderly conduct of any type will not be permitted.
- Missing towels will be charged to your account.
