Geocache Description:

A series of caches of varying types and sizes running along the Tardebigge flight of Locks. This flight has the dubious honour of being the longest flight in the UK (and technically the world).

This cache is located at the 2nd lock in the flight on the far side of the canal from the tow path. Extra care should be taken as this cache is located near to an open culvert.

Care must always be taken around canals, the banks can be very dangerous especially in wet or icy conditions and the water can be very deep with unusual undercurrents. Do NOT allow children to search unattended, for their safety.

This is not meant to be an ‘easy’ find, the natural foliage does help hide it well at some times of year. It is a 3.5 difficulty which does suggest a more thorough search is required.

I know, I know what I’m looking for and it has taken me a few minutes to locate it in the foliage on some occasions, so please be patient and be aware a search will be in order, especially at warmer times of year when plant life is flourishing. This cache is not through the bushes, you need only stand at the edge.

Tardebigge Engine House (grid reference SO988689) is a former canal-pumping engine house at Tardebigge. It is grade II listed.

It stands near lock 57 (one lock below the top lock, 58) of the Tardebigge Locks on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal and contained a steam-powered Newcomen-Watt beam engine, which was removed in 1915. It was used to pump water from the adjacent Tardebigge feeder reservoir, which is about 50 ft (15.2 m) below the level of the top pound of the canal.

At one time, a pub, The Tylers Lock, it was advertised for sale in April 2007, with planning permission to convert it into a residence.

Tylers Lock is now owned by Vigo Software Ltd, and had planned to convert the building into offices; however planning permission was rejected in 2008.

The building was converted into luxury apartments in 2012.

Please replace cache exactly as found.

Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, the journey or location, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or "copy and paste" logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.

TravelBug Etiquette: Cachers pay good money for TravelBugs and Geocoins. Please if you take a TB or GC from a cache will you ensure it is correctly logged in and out, also If you take one that still shows somewhere else please be patient before “grabbing” the item, it does not get its mileage by being grabbed and the last person to place may not have had time to log a previous find on the one you took it from. This is particularly important on busy and new caches. If you have an issue with a bug please e-mail the owner through their profile and advise them of the issue. They will be pleased to hear from you.
