Derwent Valley Wander
A river and woodland circular wander from Shotley Bridge up river to Allensford and back again, the paths are generally good walking if a bit up and down but in wet weather will be muddy in places.Some sections are very close to the river and it would be advisable not to attempt during times of flood. There is a footbridge close to either waypoint parking spot, cross over and make your way to the cache furthest down river to start, any directions given will be from here.
A chance here to get up close to a magnificent specimen of this perculiar tree, I stood here and looked up in awe!! but then I love big trees as you will probably gather as you progress round the series. the cache itself is an appropriate disco placed a little way from the tree.
When you are done head back up river until you are opposite the footbridge then turn right uphill for the woodland loop section.
