Welcome to the Shepherdsville Park Wherigo Tutorial!
This wherigo is intended to be an easy intro to wherigo caches and how the game is basically played. These games can be played on select Garmin GPSr devices, and most smart phones. I have an Android and an iPhone, so this has been tested on those devices only. I can't say that this WON'T work on Garmins, but I have not tested it and can't promise anything. Also note, park hours are dawn until dusk. Please don't attempt this at night.
To get started, you can download the wherigo "cartridge" here: DOWNLOAD LINK (best accessed from your mobile device using the steps listed below)
Rather than downloading it to your computer and trying to figure out how you can move it over to your device (I'm looking at you, iOS), it may be easier to just download it directly to your device! Follow these steps to get up and rolling on your smart phone:
For iPhone/iPod users:
- Head over to your app store, search for "wherigo" and download the only option that appears
- Once you have it downloaded, open the app. Click on the blue square with an arrow in the top left (like the sharing icon)
- Select the option to download cartridge from wherigo.com, this will open the wherigo website within the app
- Sign into the site using your geocaching.com credentials
- Once signed in, search for wherigos via the options on the right (easiest way is to use the zip code 40165)
- This wherigo should be the first one on the list, click on the title to open the cartridge description
- Click the download button on the left side, this will bring you to the download page
- Ensure the drop-down menu is on "pocket PC" and hit download, this will download the cartridge to your device
- When done, hit the "<Wherigo" button in the top left to return to your list of cartridges
- Now you have the cartridge and are ready to play!
For android users:
- Head over to your app store, search for "whereyougo," the app is a blue circle with a bee in it (if it doesn't show up in the top few results, try searching for "whereyougo geocaching")
- From here, the app should detect when you're trying to download a wherigo and offer to open itself when the download link is clicked
- Head on over to wherigo.com in your mobile browser
- Sign into the site using your geocaching.com credentials
- Once signed in, search for wherigos via the options on the right (easiest way is to use the zip code 40165)
- This wherigo should be the first one on the list, click on the title to open the cartridge description
- My andoid prompts you to open the link with either your browser or the whereyougo app (other devices, especially older versions of android may vary)
- Select the whereyougo option and tap open, whereyougo should open with a "download cartridge" page
- Hit the download button in the bottom left, this will likely pull up a login error (unless you played with the settings and added your credentials - way to deviate from the steps!)
- Add your geocaching.com credentials to the app in order to allow it to log in and download your cartridge for you
- Once they've been added, hit your back button repeatedly until you're back to the "download cartridge" page
- Hit "Download" again, this time it will have access to the cartridge and download it
- Now you have the cartridge and are ready to play! Hit start to open the game!
Playing the game
Now that you have the software and cartridge downloaded, you're ready to play the game. Head to the park, open the game, and enjoy!
