< Twin Doso-jin >
Doso-jin is a generic name for a type of Shinto's gods. They are often seen in the center or at the border of villages, or at the corners of road junctions. It is said that people put Doso-jins to pray for prosperity of the community. Doso-jins are also placed along transportation routes such as the old Nakasendo Road, wishing safety of trip and transportation.
Two Doso-jins - a male and a female gods - are carved on a stone here.

＜道祖神＞
路傍に祀られた神様は「道祖神」と呼ばれます。集落の境や村の中心、道の辻などに、石像などの形で祀られているものが多いようです。集落の守り神や繁栄のほか、中山道のような街道においては、旅や交通の安全を祈願して祀られたものもあるといわれています。
この場所になる道祖神は、男女二体の神が１つの石に彫られています。
