Geocache Description:

The walk and caches

This walk is about three miles (5.3 km) with 18 caches. There are also three additional multi caches on route and one stage of an Adventure Lab cache series at the station. The route will take you on a walk around the Bluebell Railway and the surrounding area. The terrain is varied with some steep climbs, uneven surfaces, and stiles. I have tried to avoid leaving caches in areas where trainspotters usually loiter and the paths are usually very quiet, so you shouldn't have many issues with muggles. All the caches in this series are micros, but the multi caches are large enough for trackables and swag.

The Bluebell Railway

The Bluebell Railway is a preserved railway line running between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead. The railway started running services in August 1960 after the line was previously axed. It is now run by the Bluebell Railway Preservation Society. The Bluebell has regularly been filmed for TV, films, and other media such as Downtown Abbey, The Railway Children, and an advert for the Smart Forfour.

Train timetable

A timetable for trains can be found on the Bluebell Railway website.

Getting here

Parking can be found near the first cache. This parking area is owned by the Bluebell Railway so is primarily for users of the railway, but is often used by walkers and train-spotters who do not ride on the trains. The postcode for the car park is RH17 7BB. Please do not park in the road on the way to the car park. It has more than enough space, even on the busiest days. There is no charge for parking.

There is also free parking in Ardingly. This is ideal if also visiting Flatcoat Walker’s Ardingly Adventure series (GC1J3YH) or on Bluebell Railway event days. The postcode for this car park is RH17 6TJ.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Over half of this series of caches has no or limited mobile signal on most mobile networks. Due to this I advise that you download the caches before you even reach the car park if you intend to use a mobile phone, as you may not even receive signal here.
