Geocache Description:

This geocache is located near the Yorkshire Settlers Monument along Highway 1 on the Annapolis River Causeway near Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. It is regular sized geocache with interesting facts about the area and the monument. Be sure to find all the geocaches in the series in order to get your limited edition geocoin celebrating Canada's 150th Birthday. This cache is one of the 2017 County of Annapolis Geocaching Passport Series.

This geocache is actually located inside the Tidal Power Visitor Information Centre on the second floor. Permission has been given and all employees are aware of its existence. Unfortunately, it can not be accessed year round and can only be found between 10 to 6 daily May to October. The Monument is dedicated to the families that settled the area from 1774 to 1776. In the early 1770s settlers from Yorkshire, England crossed the Atlantic Ocean to seek a better life in Nova Scotia. Beginning in 1774, a number of these families settled in the townships of Annapolis and Granville. Four ships in particular the Thomas & William, the Port George, the Jenny, and the Two Friends. All Around for Halifax carried passengers who settled in Annapolis County. The Yorkshire Families who settled here are Bath, Clark, Gieliate, Halliday, Hawksworth, Hudson, Jacques, Jefferson, Mills, Milner, Oliver, Robinson, and Wilson.

Remember to pick up one of the historical postcards from each of all the 2017 geocaches and then to deliver them to County of Annapolis Recreation Office at 271 Granville Street Bridgetown, Nova Scotia. The office is only open 9 am to 1 pm Monday to Friday. Once completed, fill in the quick survey/passport for your limited edition trackable geocoin. Have fun!
