This cache is part of a series that brings cachers to some random historical locations that are hidden amongst the urban sprawl that is the Greater Toronto area. Often, these historic buildings get surrounded by new developments, apartments and office towers - people forget they are even there. Then one day you are driving along and BANG you find a random historical building in the middle of 1960's apartments or post-war bungalows. Enjoy some of these hidden gems.
This historically significant building was designed by Toronto's first architect Robert McCallum in 1906 and is a great example of the Canadian interpretation of the Arts & Crafts style. Once the home of the St. Matthew's Lawn Bowling Club, this clubhouse was relocated from another area of the park when the club closed after more than 100 years in operation. This entire corner of Broadview and Gerrard has undergone a lot of changes in the last few years as the needs of the city and neighborhood have changed. Surprised this building has lasted as long as it has... hope it's around for many more years.
The coordinates will lead you to a plaque with some info about the building and where it used to be located - you will need to do a quick bit of math to find the final cache as it is not at this location. To find the final - less than 100 yards away - use N43 40.A3B W079 21.C6D
A = the first digit of the year of the Goad's Atlas photo of the original location of the clubhouse
B = the last digit of the same year
C = the first digit of the year the building was moved (as listed in the same paragraph), minus 1
D = the last digit of the same year, plus 1
While you are on your way to get the cache, we suggest having a look at #467 Broadview... this well hidden cottage was built in 1807 and is believed to be the longest inhabited building in the city. It predates most of the buildings in Fort York and the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse.
The cache is a nano so please bring a pen. This area is muggle central 99% of the time so stealth is essential or this cache might end up in someone's pocket! Depending on your coordinate accuracy, it might appear that the cache is on private property - it is not - but it is well concealed in proximity to it.
