Like other Apache tribes, the siting of an Apache camp had everything to do with the culture of raiding and warfare.
Round wikiups blended in color and shape with curvilinear shape of vegetation and followed the terrain. As there were no clans, Apache sites had no organization such as Comanche and other Plains Indian sites and tipi ring patterns. Settings tended to be terraces elevated in terrain but not on top of peaks. Apache camps tended to flow with the terrain and have numerous escape routes. Such places as this were reserved for "crows nest" lookouts. Apaches would carefully select their campsites for both ease of defense and ease of exit should they be overwhelmed. This ridge is thus not a good camp area.
