How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Another multi-cache that may require algebra, geometry, or maps to get to.

This cache will require you to visit two waypoints before figuring out where the final cache is. You'll need a car, as the waypoints and the cache are not within walking distance of one another.

The first waypoint is at the coordinates given above. It is a 35mm film canister that contains the coordinates of the second waypoint, and the bearing to the final cache from the first waypoint.

The second waypoint is also a 35mm film canister. It contains only the bearing to the final cache from the second waypoint.

There are probably a number of different ways you can figure out where the final cache is. If you need some help, you can use this document to get started.

If that's not enough, post a "Couldn't find it" log, email me, and (if you'd like) I'll send you an Excel spreadsheet that will do the calculations. Please put the bearings to the cache in your email so that I know that you gave it a try.

Getting yourself to the final cache location should not require anything out of the ordinary, except maybe a nice walk. If you're finding you're doing something dangerous to get to the cache, either you've got something wrong or you're making the route harder than it needs to be. There's no need to get wet either.

A proximity hint will be posted one month after the cache is posted. This hint will allow you to find the cache if you can get within the general vicinity. If you can find the cache before it is posted, you will be awarded 1,000 Karma Points.

When you do find the cache, please post a quick description of how you figured out where it is (without giving any of the challenges away). I'm curious as to what other ways this can be done.

Finally, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!
