The Lodge Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

Geocache Description:

Mae'r ddaeargelc yma wedi ei greu fel rhan o brosiect Llwybr Llechi Eryri. Allwch chi ddod o hyd i bob un o'r 15 ddaeargelc sy'n gysylltiedig â'r llwybr?

This geocache has been created  as part of the Snowdonia Slate Trail project. Can you find all 15 geocaches linked to the route?

English follows Welsh

Mae'r geocache (ddaeargelc) yma wedi ei greu a'i roi fel rhan o brosiect Llwybr Llechi Eryri. Y mae artist Julie Williams (Jŵls) wedi ymgorffori gwaith celf a grëwyd gan blant ysgol ar ymweliadau maes ar hyd y llwybr i mewn i'r llyfrau log. Allwch chi ddod o hyd i bob un o'r 15 ddaeargelc sy'n gysylltiedig â'r llwybr?

Mae cerflun lechi unigryw mewn pob daeargelc a’u pwrpas yw cysylltu yn weledol er mwyn cynrychioli'r Llwybr Llechi. Allwch chi wneud argraff ohonynt, gan ymuno’r 15 i ffurfio cylch Llwybr Llechi eich hun?Rydym yn awgrymu i chi fynd a darn bach o bapur gyda chi er mwyn cymryd y rhwbiad. Yn ystod y prosiect mae streipen oren wedi cynrychioli’r llwybr ac mae’r tuniau daeargell yn adlewyrchu hyn.

Adeiladwyd yr Hen Ysgol (sef Y Lodge) yn 1854. Pan gaeodd y chwarel yn 1969 symudodd nifer fawr o’r chwarelwyr a'u teuluoedd o'r pentref ac yn anffodus nid oedd galw am yr ysgol yma, oedd unwaith yn llawn bwrlwm disgyblion hapus. Ar ôl 1969 ddaeth yn Ganolfan Cymunedol ond erbyn rŵan fel gwelwch mai’n caffi. Beth am fynd am banad tra cael cipolwg tu mewn?

Dynes byr oedd Ann Begw Jones ac roedd ganddi waith pwysig iawn fel cloc larwm. Arferai chwarelwyr dalu dimau yr wythnos iddi fynd heibio’u tŷ ben bore a tharo’u ffenest hefo wialen hir 10 tr o hyd er mwyn eu deffro i fynd i weitho yn Chwarel Dinorwig.

Ewch i www.snowdoniaslatetrail.org i ddysgu mwy am y daith gerdded 85 milltir ac am rhan o dreftadaeth yr ardal. Aled Owen, sef  aelod o Grŵp Gweithred Cymuned Cwm, sydd wedi sbarduno a rheoli’r datblygiad y Llwybr fydd yn cael ei agor yn swyddogol yn ystod hydref 2017. Mae'r prosiect Llwybr Llechi Eryri sydd yn arwain at agor y llwybr  wedi cael ei gefnogi gan Gronfa Treftadaeth y Loteri ac amrywiaeth o arianwyr eraill.

Mae’r prosiect ysgolion wedi dod i’w ben gyda’r ysgolion yn gosod daeargell eu hunain gyda chymorth Anita Daimond. Mae peth o’r wybodaeth hanesyddol yn y ddaeargell yn wybodaeth gofnodwyd yn ystod gweithdai cymunedol a  drefnwyd gan Siân Shakespear neu wedi’i sgrifennu gan yr ysgolion eu hunain.

This geocache has been created and placed as part of the Snowdonia Slate Trail project. Artist Julie Williams (Jŵls) has incorporated artwork created by school children on field visits along the route into the logbooks. Can you find all 15 geocaches linked to the route?

Each geocache also includes an unique slate carving, designed to connect with each other to represent the Snowdonia Slate Trail. Can you make a rubbing of each one, joining  the 15 together to form your own circular Slate Trail ? We suggest you take a small piece of paper with you to take a rubbing. During the project an orange stripe has been used to represent the trail so this has been used in the geocache tin design.

The Old School (now The Lodge) was built in 1854. Unfortunately when the quarry closed in 1969 many of the quarrymen and their families moved from the village and there was no call for this once thriving school. After 1969 it becams a community centre but by now as you can see it is cafe. Why don’t you pop in for a ‘panad’ and a look around?

Ann Begw Jones was a short woman and she had an important job as a human alarm clock. The quarrymen used to pay a ha’penny a week for her to knock their window with a long stick some 10 ft long and wake them to go to work at Dinorwig quarry.

Visit www.snowdoniaslatetrail.org  to learn more about this 85-mile walk and some of the heritage of the area. Aled Owen a member of the Cwm Community Action Group has initiated and managed the development of this Trail which will be officially opened during the autumn of 2017. The Snowdonia Slate Trail Project which has led up to the opening of the trail has been supportedby the Heritage Lottery Fund together with match funding from a range of other funders.

The schools project has culminated in the participating schools setting their own geocacheswith support from Anita Daimond. Some of the historical information included in the geocaches is information shared by local people who attended community workshops organised by Sian Shakespear or written by the schools themselves.
