Geocache Description:

This cache is the fifth in our series of caches designed to showcase the beauty of the Uists. The cache is a micro placed on the footpath on the northern side of the gorgeous Loch Eynort further along from the first cache in this series, AM BORD (GC6QWVC). If you have done that cache then it should take only another 10 minutes or so to walk to this one.

Having already placed a cache on this wonderful loch side walk we could easily have looked elsewhere for a cache location. However, we find ourselves drawn back here again and again - especially on sunny days.

Park your car where you would for AM BORD and follow the same footpath. The walking is easy (at least up to the cache location) and there are additional paths off either side which you can safely explore as they return you to the main footpath eventually.

The main footpath finally reaches a bridge which is the location of the cache. When the cache was originally set, the bridge had a really interesting design (and hence the name of the cache which means, in Gaelic, "interesting bridge") which can be seen in the photos. Its seemingly puzzling design was due to a metal bar that seemed to block the way and which levered out of the way when you pulled on a weighted end. This design was intended to stop deer from trying to use the bridge! Unfortunately, at some point over the winter of 2021/2022 the interesting design has been replaced by a pretty standard gate sad

The cache itself is a micro placed on or near the bridge.

Before retrieving the cache make a note of its exact position and ensure you return it there - this is really important.

The cache only contains a log book so you will need to provide your own pen or pencil.

Once you have solved the cache you could continue on the footpath, although after the bridge it is less well-defined, very boggy in places (often impassable at some times of the year unless you have waterproof footwear) but nevertheless still a really rewarding walk. When we placed the cache we walked on to a lovely inlet with a water cascade nearby which was incredibly peaceful. We met a couple, a young lad around 20 and his grandfather who were returning from the ascent of Beinn Mhòr - the highest peak on South Uist. Having just re-established the cache on top of Ben Scrien on Eriskay a couple of days earlier (A'BHEINN ("High Hills - Eriskay" Redux) (GC76HPC)) we looked up longingly at the peaks above and thought "High Hills - South Uist"? Maybe some day...

Please note that the west side of South Uist is a haven for ticks. We have been advised that there is a particularly heavy infestation during May/June 2019. Either avoid the area during this time or take special precautions such as those advised here
