THE ANSONS BRANCH CANAL:

The Anson Branch was a short canal in the West Midlands, England. It ran for just over one mile from its junction with the Walsall Canal near Forster's bridge. It formed part of the Birmingham Canal Navigations. The canal is only partially watered now and is no longer navigable. It formerly connected with the now defunct Bentley Canal which, in turn, connected with the Wyrley and Essington Canal in Wednesfield. The canal can be walked from Foresters Bridge where it joins the Walsall canal near my Walsall Canal Railway Aqueduct geocache, along the towpath passing my Ansons Aqueduct Geocache, then the water ends at BikeBoyRoy's No Time for Popcorn geocache where you can see the remains of an old canal bridge. The canal would have then ran between the side of the Cinema and the retail outlet where this cache is situated and then on across the now site of Junction 10 of the M6 Motorway. You can then see evidence of the canal on satellite images of online maps where the canal ran to Reedswood Park.
