Geocache Description:

This is a Wherigo cache which is effectively a guided walk around a series of virtual stages in the old historic town of Llantrisant before taking you to the cache which is hidden at the final location. The walk is approximately one and a half miles and takes 45-60 minutes to complete at a gentle pace (or a little less if you decided to rush around, but where’s the fun in that?).

The cache is not at the listing coordinates. The listing coordinates are for the recommended parking at N 51° 32.623 W 003° 22.458.

Instructions: Android users should install the WhereYouGo app and fill in their GC username and password in the WhereYouGo app settings before clicking on the link below to download the Wherigo file directly on their device. Read on for further advice on configuring the app. Eligible Garmin device users should save this file on their PC and transfer it to the Wherigo folder in their device.

Download the .gwc Wherigo file here. Current version is 1.7 updated on 19 July 2020.

When you reach the start point and start the Wherigo, you need to select Stage 01 and navigate to it. You need to visit every stage of the route in order to unlock the next stage, meaning that you have to walk the entire route to be able to complete the cache. Some stages have simple multiple choice questions to answer before you can proceed (but you can have as many attempts as you like) and some stages are merely waypoints to help you along the way. P.S. Don't listen to Welshman65, there aren't 42 stages (not even 23!).

How the Wherigo is displayed depends on the device you are using. I strongly recommend the WhereYouGo Android app but older Garmin GPSr’s which have Wherigo capability function similarly well. Remember to select each stage as you navigate to it because as you walk, your device will show you distance-to-go and direction at the very minimum and depending on your device you'll be able to navigate by map or compass in the usual way. Each stage is triggered by walking into a specific area. Each area is of generous size but if for reasons of poor signal you find yourself having to wander around to trigger a stage, take care of where you step! Also, try standing still and let the GPS settle. When I tested the route my Garmin Oregon 450 performed slightly better than my Android phone but both worked well. It has not been tested on an iPhone but it has been successfully completed.

WhereYouGo app users should configure the app settings so that the ‘Wherigo folder’ is a folder of their choice, then ensure that the .gwc file is saved to that folder. Also tick ‘Save game automatically’. The app will then save your progress if you switch your device to another screen/app. Under the Guiding menu, ‘Zone navigation point’ should be set to ‘Nearest border point’.

Whichever device you are using, your progress will be saved automatically after every stage, so that in the unlikely event of a fault causing your device to crash, you will be able to recover your progress.

This is suitable for beginners who haven't used Wherigo before. Good luck and enjoy!

Congratulations to C.A.K.E. Crusaders for being First to Find!!
