In Tocantins, Stephen is known for his strong strategic play in the game, described by Coach Wade as "The Wizard" and earning him a spot in the final two. However, a poor performance in the Final Tribal Council" gave a unanimous win to his close ally J.T. Thomas.
After being chosen by public vote to compete in Cambodia, Stephen became more aggressive with his gameplay in order to avoid having history repeating. However, this would cause Stephen to be targeted and subsequently blindsided at Tribal Council. He is also the first contestant to hold the Vote Stealer advantage.
