Geocache Description:

St James’s Church,  Burnopfield

The foundation stone was laid by Lord Ravensworth on 21st May 1872, and the church was consecrated by the Lord Bishop of Durham, the Reverend Charles Baring on 20th November 1873. The first service was taken by the Reverend Stirrup on Sunday 23rd November 1873. Although the church was designed to accommodate about 320  people, for the first service there were only 25 Communicants present.

I have not been able to find much out about this church, if you have any information about it please let me know what it is via my profile.

The cache can be found at N54 54.ABC W001 44.DEF

To the right of the main gate find the headstone for Ralph Fenwick and his family. Take note of the years Ralph Fenwick, and Ann, the wife of William Fenwick, died in the order shown on the headstone and allocate the letters a to h to those digits. Work out the coordinates as follows:-

A = h-a-e

B = b+e

C = c/d

D = f-h

E = a+h

F = f-e

Checksum = 31.

The cache container is a small preformed tube containing a log. Remember to take a pen. Tweezers may also be useful.
