A quick Cache and dash near to the entrance of Staines Lammas recreation Ground.
Lammas land is common land, over which commoners have Lammas rights. These rights entitled commoners to pasture livestock following the harvest, between Lammas day, in August through to March / April the following year.
This area in Staines was known as 'Church Lammas' but when this area was made into a recreation ground it was originally known as Ashby Recreation Ground, however now it is known as Lammas Recreation Ground.
This area gave it's name to the local football team, Staines Lammas FC, which was formed in 1926 as a mens football team playing their games at the Ashby Recreation Ground. However in the 1980's they relocated to Laleham, but they still retained 'Lammas' in their name.
Happy Hunting.
