Geocache Description:

Welcome to Storybook Land/Wylie Park in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Storybook Land and the Land of Oz are open from April 15 to October 15 each season.

Although L. Frank Baum only lived in South Dakota for three years, the footprint he left behind makes him one of South Dakota’s famous authors. His most famous work, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, was written during his stay here.

He adapted The Wizard of Oz into a musical show in 1902, which toured the country for nine years.

This cache is the third in as series of caches to highlight  songs from The Wizard of Oz movie adaptation of 1939.

"Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead" is the centerpiece of several individual songs in an extended set-piece performed by the Munchkins, Glinda (Billie Burke) and Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) in the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.  It was composed by Harold Arlen, with the lyrics written by E.Y. Harburg.

The group of songs celebrate the death of the Wicked Witch of the East when Dorothy's house is dropped on her by the tornado and the death of the Wicked Witch of the West after being splashed with water.

In 2004 "Ding-Dong! The Witch is Dead" finished at #82 in AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of the top tunes in American cinema.

Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead!

Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!

Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.

Wake up you sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.

Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. She's gone where the goblins go,

Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.

Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.

Let them know

The Wicked Witch is dead!
