Given the popularity of this hike, I was surprised that there was no cache at or near the trailhead. So, I decided to hide one.
I seem to get here pretty often. Sometimes with newer hikers that want a decent, shorter hike, or a leg stretch I can get to and get back before I work in the afternoon. It's also one of those hikes that can be done almost year around (if you don't mind snow). I've swam in the lake in the summer and walked across it in the winter (though I can't recommend that). Enjoy your hike and bring your NW Forest Pass (a day pass can be picked up at the outside kiosk at the Verlot Ranger station for $5) or America the Beautiful Pass.
