Bunyip Sanctuary
I mainly placed this cache due to there being so few caches in Bunyip and this sanctuary being a great area to explore. The cache is not far from the start of a 2.5 - 3km walk which takes 35 - 45 mins and if you have the time is well worthwhile. Don't forget to watch for Bunyips, Drop Bears and other wildlife. Including muggles.
The Bunyip Sanctuary is a site of approximately 50 hectares that lies to the north of the Bunyip Township. The northern pocket is a significant area that provides a tranquil sanctuary of native vegetation for the community and native fauna. The land surrounding this pocket was cleared, along with most of the vegetation within Bunyip during the 20th century for the purposes of establishing residential and agricultural development. However, this area is subject to flooding, and was established as open space within residential development. Over the past 10 years the northern pocket of the site has been regenerating with the aid of the Bunyip Sanctuary Committee of Management. This area now holds some significant and endangered native flora species that can assist in the regeneration of other local areas.
