Geocache Description:

This cache is placed as part of the DF80 series in honor of Druid Frank's 80th birthday. It is also placed to remind us all of how we are connected and what a special community we all belong to. There's never a bad time to tell a story of friendship and meet new friends along the way!

Druid Frank was the first member of the local geocaching community that I met at the first ever event I attended and having seen his name on almost every log in the area, I knew that I was in the presence of a local legend when I had the great fortune to sit down next to him. We talked engineering, we talked about insects and we talked a whole bunch about puzzles. Yup, Frank really likes talking about puzzles! To this day I credit Frank for giving me the confidence (and some basic skills – pun intended) to successfully navigate the geo-puzzle world. Puzzles can be very intimidating when you are new to caching and it's not always easy to reach out for help. Sometimes you even need to have the help find you! When I was asked to contribute to this series of caches, I knew exactly what to do. For the man that loves puzzles, I give you this... multi? Although I have some fun ideas for puzzles, if I’m going to honor Frank, I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize what he has meant to me as a cacher. He helped me that first night (and many nights since) and that means more to me than solving the puzzles he helped me with (although that was some fairly tasty gravy). Getting and receiving help while caching can be extremely gratifying and just in case you haven’t experienced that yourself… This multicache begins in Long Beach and ends in Long Beach, but it will likely require you to expand your horizons and help others as they help you in return. The posted coordinates will take you to a location that is fairly near the airport, but unless you plan on hopping on a plane, you will need to find a friend in a land of poutine, plentiful donuts and far better beer! Oh, did I mention that Frank and I both have relatives in the Great White North – in the same city, no less? Once you have retrieved the coordinates for WP2, it will be up to you to figure out how to get the coordinates for the final. Feel free to visit my home town (I can give you a list of must see places), or try to convince a local Canadian cacher to visit WP2 for you. You can even offer them some help in return. I’m gonna bet there are a bunch of them waiting for an angel just like you! If finding a local Canadian to help sounds daunting, try visiting GC77AVF. There you will find a puzzle that must be driving the locals crazy. It’s an easy puzzle, but it requires a keyword and the only person who knows how to solve it is… YOU!! At WP1, be sure to take down the coordinates for WP2, but also be sure to copy down the code in the container. This code is the keyword that your new geo-friend will need for a puzzle smiley of their own. I’m sure they will be happy to exchange the information that you need for it – everybody wins! To log this cache, you can travel to Canada yourself to find WP2, or you can log a find with the help of a cacher that provides the final coordinates for you as described above. Feel free to mention the name of your helper in your log and remember to give them the code so that they may log the puzzle cache in their local area if they wish. Ask your new friend if they have helped anyone else before you get information and try to use a new cacher if they say have - it's not required, but it's just more fun that way! I have more contacts in Canada than I can shake a stick at and I am here to help if you have exhausted all other possibilities. Oh, and leave the FTF for Frank, will you? He should be able to tell his sister-in-law to walk into the park near her house and get the info. I had to give the young Dove a head start, eh?
