Akrotiri Marsh South Hide Traditional Cache

We were taking an alternative route to avoid the roadworks on the Kolossi to Akrotiri road when we saw all the work that had been done to clean up this marshland. Many years ago we used to come here birdwatching but then it got totally overgrown with reeds so we stopped coming and now it has been transformed into a lovely peaceful place once again.

The Marsh is part of the Akrotiri wetland complex, the largest natural wetland system on the island. It covers a total area of 150 hectares and it draws water mainly from the Akrotiri aquaifer. It is also an Important Bird Area (IBA), a designated Special Protection Area (SPA), and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

Although we have given it a T rating of 1.5 it is accessible for wheelchairs but would be a bumpy ride and you may need assistance to reach the cache. There is plenty of parking and tweezers would be helpful too!
