Hues, News and Kazoos Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Inuksuuk: We had a beautiful canoe ride up the Ouse in perfect calm and it's already November. We brought the chainsaw and did use it once but someone else had already been up in here with a chainsaw to clear a path through the first downed tree. Despite how much we enjoyed paddling up in this area, we decided to just archive the caches north of the bridge, and pick up our containers. It's always an obstacle course in here with fallen trees and then strong current in springtime. We just decided we didn't want to do maintenance up in here. That's not to say that we won't come back and paddle in here, just for fun. But we are not going to place geocaches in this section anytime soon.

Geocache Description:

This is a water access only geocache. Good luck getting there. It's not a walk in the park.

From the bridge on River Road, you will hit at least two log jams before you finally get to this log jam that ends your journey north. Getting here is a little tough. You have to manouever around downed trees, and then push your kayak over a major log jam. You might have to get out, balance on the logs, lift your kayak over the jam, and then get back in the kayak.

Can a canoe get in here?  Good question. I've never tried it. I think I could get the aluminum one in here. There's NO way I'd take the good kevlar in there and scratch it all up. There's no rocks to contend with, at least, but the log jam is going to prevent all but the very toughest cachers from ever getting to these last three caches on the Ouse.

If you do manage to get to this location, you will definitely earn your T5 rating. And don't blame me if you scratch up your kayak or if you fall trying to get over the log jam and get all wet. It is a T5 and you were warned.

The nice thing is, you don't have to worry about wind.  :)

Also, if you are quiet, you might see a lot of wildlife.  I saw a deer, an osprey, a hawk, a beaver, a water snake, a flicker (woodpecker), and a Swallowtail butterfly... oh, and a whole lot of mosquitoes.
