Vuonna 1950 rakennettiin tie metsänhakkuiden vuoksi Inarista Konesjärven rantaan asti. Siitä jatkettiin matkaa viimeiset kolme kilometriä kävellen pitkospuita pitkin Riutulan lastenkotiin. Yleensä matka Inarista Konesjärvelle kuljettiin kesäisin taksilla tai pyörällä. Auton omisti vain Riutulan koulun opettaja, jolla oli oikein autotalli Konesjärven rannalla lähellä kätköpaikkaa. Talvisin matkantekoon käytettiin poro-tai hevoskyytiä.
Kun presidentti Urho Kekkonen vieraili 1960-luvun alussa Riutulan lastenkodissa hän lupasi, että kymmenisen vuotta vireillä ollut tiehanke tullaan toteuttamaan. Vuonna 1963 valmistui maantie Riutulaan ja se oli siihen aikaan ensimmäinen kestopäällysteinen tie Inarin ja Utsjoen kunnissa. Siitä seurasi, että miehet ja pojat tulivat kaukaakin autoineen ja mopoineen koeajamaan ajopeliään pikitielle.
In 1950, this road from Inari to Konesjärvi Lake was built in order to cut down the forest. The last 3 km to Riutula’s childrenhome were covered by foot with the use of duckboards. During the summer months people usually travel from Inari to Konesjärvi Lake by taxi or by bicycle. In winter time they ride a horse or use reindeer sleighes. The first car owner was the teacher from Riutula school, who had also a garage in Konesjärvi Lake right near the hiding place of this cache.
During his visit in Riutula, the president Urho Kekkonen promised that the road project will be implemented, so Riutula area got a paved road in 1963. It was the first paved road in Inari-Utsjoki area, so the men and boys came from everywhere to test their mopeds and cars on paved road.
