About this cache:
Wyoming County’s motto is that we have more cows than people. It's true! We have over 700 farms in Wyoming County, covering 60% of the county and individuals or families own 570 of those farms.
Wyoming County is the #1 producer of milk in New York State. There are 184 dairy farms which produce enough milk to provide each resident of New York State more than six (6) gallons of milk each year.
Maple producers place close to 207,000 taps in maple trees each spring, which produces 55,000 gallons of syrup. Our 83 maple producers make the most gallons of maple syrup of any other county in New York State.
Wyoming County ranks first in New York State and 13th in the nation for corn silage production, using 43,000 acres of corn. Another important crop is vegetables with 11,700 acres – making Wyoming County the 3rd largest vegetable acreage among New York State counties. Wyoming County ranks 1st in New York State for potato production.
In 2012, Wyoming County had 14 farms that grow Christmas trees. These growers sold 1,900 Christmas trees. One farm delivered a 35-foot fir tree to Lincoln Square’s Dante Park in New York City for the Christmas season.
