Geocache Description:

Small geocache in a peaceful spot with access to the rocky beach.

The geocache is accessed off Dollar Rd in the Dollarton area.

The area is named for the Robert Dollar shipping line which owned a sawmill and wharf there from 1918 to 1941. The Pacific War shut down the lumber trade and the sawmill machinery was sold to Gordon Gibson's Vancouver Island operation. Dollar's Mill was at the foot of Bakerview St. A cedar mill operated beside the Dollar mill, and its cement foundations are a legendary ruin in adjoining Cates Park.

This small park provides access to the inter-tidal zone.  Access to the beach area is promoted by the North Vancouver Save Our Shores Society (SOS), a community group of volunteers dedicated to protecting, restoring and enhancing our North Vancouver District waterfront and foreshore. For a number of years, SOS has been active as an advocacy group, pressing for the responsible stewardship and use of the waterfront by the public, the District of North Vancouver (DNV) and Port of Vancouver (POV).

After finding the cache, walk down to the beach, a peaceful spot with lovely views across the water.  If you linger here for a few minutes you are likely to see some birds or other local wildlife, and in the summer, you'll notice the very active recreational boat traffic.
