Geocache Description:

A large rock located just east of a small town called Bristol where I grew up. The Lords Prayer is engraved into the face of the rock.

How could ol' Faithwalker pass up the chance to set this up as a cache.

One of the old stories about this rock is, in the early days of the town when the loggers would haul their logs into town they had to climb a steep hill and would cuss and swear at their teams of horses to get them to get a good head of speed to make the climb. As the story goes, a Christian man who was well to do decided to have the prayer carved into the rock to help remind the drivers to keep thier tongues in check.

Another story which I believe to be a bit more acurate is Lord's Prayer Rock - When Joseph C. Greene was a boy and lived in So. Starksboro, one of his tasks was to take the logs from the mountain top to the sawmill in Bristol. The 9 Bridges Road or the Drake Woods Road, in those days was a terrific ride. Not only were there 9 bridges to cross, but the logs were big and apt to slide off the load. When he arrived at the "Big Rock," he knew his problems were over, so he said a little prayer, and breathed a sigh of relief knowing he would once more get his load to the mill safely. Years later, when he was a practicing physician in Buffalo, NY, he and his brother took a trip around the world, and after seeing the hieroglyphics in Egypt, he decided to come home and have the Lord's Prayer chiseled on the rock that had given him a piece of mind and a feeling of security when he was a boy.

As a boy myself, I used to pass this rock every day on my way to school or town. I remember many times climbing to the top to rest or reflect. It was always a blast to slide down on your bum. I hope you enjoy this little part of my past that means a great deal to me today.

Due to this unique spot being found on the web and many logging without actually going there I must change the requirements to qualify your find.

As you closely view the face of the rock you will notice something that looks out of place, un-natural for it's location (not paint). To log this cache you need to e-mail us with what you find and why you think it's there.

***DO NOT POST A PHOTO OF THE ANSWER ON THIS PAGE***

. Each person who logs this cache MUST send an e-mail even if you are with a family/group.

Please use caution at the rock. It sits very close to the highway and has been the location of many accidents. There is ample parking just to the east of the rock. Please keep small children in hand as the traffic passes quickly, visibility is limited and the road is very narrow.
