This is an easy one, right near several trails, in a dry area that can get flooded in river overflow years.
Goethe Park is about a mile long and 430 acres, the largest park on the south side of the American River. Its name, pronounced Gay-tee and not like one of those German guys, comes from Charles Goethe, a writer, philanthopist and naturalist whose family donated the land when officials were trying to put a complete parkway together in the 1960s and 1970s. However, Charles himself is a bit controversial. Do some research and read about some of his less-than-enlightened beliefs.
The park is full of trails; you are never far from one kind or another. There are several ways to get to this location: bike, walk from free parking outside park or pay the $4 county fee and have a very short walk from one of several parking places.
