The Rimutaka Incline is part of the "NZ Cycleway", a 10km gentle climb to the summit and for the more adventurous a 7 km descent to Cross Creek on the Featherston side where it is much steeper.
The track also forms part of the "Rimutaka Cycle Trail" which goes from Petone then along the Hutt River cycle trail, along the Rimutaka Incline to Cross Creek, then down to Ocean Beach and around the Eastbourne coast before ending back at Petone. This adventurous loop can be done in a (long) day by the super-fit, 2-3 days for the reasonably fit or you can just a do a section at a time.
