It seems so often the case that some of the best views are not always from the highest hills but, rather, of the higher hills from a lower one nearby.
Quarry Hill looks down over the town of Melrose and also looks up to its more iconic neighbours, the Eildons or, at least, two of them. Perhaps because it's tucked out of the way a little, it doesn't receive the attention it deserves. In truth, I'd never been here at all until quite recently and was delighted to discover what a hidden gem it is.
There are some trails close by, however, and the area is popular with dog walkers. It's a pleasant stroll up from the town centre.
For those who might like a bit of adventure then I've marked a possible starting point. Could be a tad glabbery in a wet spell, mind, but an interesting excursion in reasonable conditions. If you want to give this one a go then do take care crossing the busy main road.
For sure, there are easier approaches, but we leave you to discover those for yourself.
OS maps are sadly lacking here in terms of showing access paths, and if you're not familiar with the area then OpenStreetMap might be a better bet.
Please BYOP. Tweezers could well be de rigueur...;-)
For the record: this replaces the original Quarry Hill cache which disappeared following the construction of a new fence. The cache may have moved but the views haven't changed...;-)
