In the FA Cup second round, non-league part-timers Histon knocked out Leeds United with an unexpected shock victory of 1-0 at their small 4000 capacity ground in Cambridgeshire.
This village team managed to secure a passage to the third round of the FA cup in 90 minutes of pouring rain! A 39th-minute header by Langston gave them the lead which was still the score at full time. The referee was N Swarbrick (Lancashire).
In the third round Histon played Swansea City, again at their Cambridgeshire ground, but lost 1-2.
Histon FC was established in 1904 as ‘Histon Institute’, part of the Histon Institute formed the previous year in 1903, hence their unusual nickname ‘The Stutes’.
