Some clarification points:
- Contiguous counties are those which share a land border.
- Counties which meet solely corner to corner, are not contiguous. However if there is some stretch of common border they are contiguous even if there is not a road along that stretch.
- Counties separated by a river are considered contiguous, even though there is not a bridge across the river between the counties. For example, counties in Ohio are considered contiguous to the corresponding counties directly across the river in Kentucky.
- Counties separated by a Great Lake, ocean inlets, gulfs, major bays, sounds, etc are not considered contiguous. For example the counties of Wisconsin are not contiguous to the counties of lower Michigan (separated by Lake Michigan). Similarly Connecticut counties are not contiguous to Long Island NY (separated by Long Island Sound). Another example would be Huron County MI. It is not contiguous to Arenac County MI (separated by Saginaw Bay).
- An exception to the above rule would be Emmit County MI in the lower peninsula. It is considered contiguous to Mackinac County MI in the upper peninsula (connected across the straits of Mackinac by the Mackinaw Bridge). Similarly San Francisco County is considered contiguous to Almeda County and Marin County (connected by the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges).
- Hawaii counties are not contiguous.
The Rules
1. For verification purposes, there is a Project-GC checker below.
2. You are welcome to find the cache before completing all of the requirements. If you do, please just sign the log and post a note on the cache page. Then, after you have completed the challenge, you can come back and log it as a find.
3. Logged finds that do not qualify will be deleted.
The D/T for this cache would normally be a 1.5/1.5. However, in keeping within the rules, the difficulty rating of this cache reflects the difficulty of the challenge.
A special thanks is extended to MaxB for their help, inspiration and much of the cache description information. They have a similar series of challenges in Michigan. GC43JRX is just one example.
batman74 has used Project-GC to see if he/she qualified for this challenge and he/she did. We made it with 47 connected regions and needed only 5. They were connected with 886 counties.
