Taheke Entrance (Whangarei) Traditional Cache
Taheke Entrance (Whangarei)

in our disclaimer.
A really nice relatively short and accessable bush walk deserving of a few more caches to encourage more people to visit.
The main Taheke track is a 3 km loop walk which will take you through areas of regenerating kauri forest. Branching off the track is a short detour to a viewing platform overlooking the Taheke Falls and the opportunity of another cache, courtesy of Pageheart. The platform gives an impressive view downstream over the Taheke Scenic Reserve.
This reserve is located 14 km north east of Whangarei. Turn off the Whareora-Pataua North Road, cross a bridge and turn left on to Hoban Road and 1km along here, park in the DOC carpark. Access to the Taheke Reserve track is along the private road from the DOC carpark.
Please be aware, the start of the track crosses the Taheke River at a concrete ford. Caution should be taken when crossing here, as the rocks may be slippery and crossing should not be attempted when the river is in flood. Sections of the track may also be slippery when wet.
Please be aware that this reserve has many beautiful kauri and we really need to prevent the spread of kauri die-back disease. Please spray your boots on arrival and departure at the spray sytation by the gate.
Cache is an easy one to start with, very close to the track, near the start of the walkway.
Small sistema with room for a few swaps. BYOP.
