Geocache Description:

This cache is another in the one-room rural school sign initiative.

According to the sign, this school was in existence in what was then the North West Territories, before the existence of the Province of Alberta.

According to the book "Pioneering With a Piece of Chalk" by Bill Baergen,  there was some disagreement as to where the school should be built.  Logs were cut but the disagreement continued,  Application was made to the Territorial Government in Regina for approval of the school.

Voters in the Distrcit voted twice to defeat the application.  Hence a petition was taken around by 6 young people and they accomplished what could not be done and the school was built.  Those young folks really must have wanted to go to school.

This school opened in 1891, fourteen years before the Province of Alberta was created.

By that time there was enough families with school-aged children that a second school was then built in High River.
