Geocache Description:

The original H-3 Summit Saddle cache was originally hidden by Kawipoo on July 3, 2003. The cache seemed to have gone missing back in 2013, and I had dropped a replacement on October 20, 2013. It later went missing again in 2016, and then it was archived on March 18, 2017. I tried contacting the original cache owner about having this replaced and unarchived, but no response. This trail has always been one of my favorites and I had hiked it many times prior to my geocaching days. The views from the summit are worthy of a cache.

So I hiked up with some friends and placed an ammo box in a new location at the saddle. The cache sat and sat and sat for several months... I finally went back to check on it and it had survived the test of time. As you reach the summit, the cache will be on your left, tucked into the roots of a tree, about 10 feet from the End of Trail signs. See spoiler pictures for exact location. The ammo box is tucked into the roots of the tree. Please remove and replace carefully, and do your best not to trample the plants around the tree so as not to expose the tree roots.

You can access this cache by starting at the Moanalua Valley Park (open from 7am - 7pm) at the end of Ala Aolani Street. Follow the Kamananui Valley Trail for approximately 2.5 miles. Turn left at the Kulana'ahane Trail Head sign and cross a stream bed. Keep going straight; if you make a right turn after crossing the stream, you will end up on the Moanalua Middle (Keana'akamano) Ridge Trail. You will make approximately 23 stream crossings. When you reach Goldie's Adventures - End of Maintained Trail, keep proceeding past the sign and up the short spur until you reach the saddle at an elevation of 1600 feet. Total round trip is approximately 11 miles and will take about 5 hours to complete.

DISCLAIMER: Geocaching can be dangerous. You are under no obligation to hunt for my caches. While it is entirely possible to access Heaven and even possibly Hell, from the Moanalua Saddle Summit, I do not recommend attempting these crossovers! This section of the Koolau Summit Trail is extremely eroded and steep. Crossing over to and from the saddle can result in serious injury or death. Please do as I say... and not as I do. Follow the route described in the cache page and do not attempt to crossover to this cache. Cache at your own risk!!!
