Geocache Description:

Pacific County, once a part of Oregon Territory, then a part of Washington Territory, and now the most southwesterly corner of Washington State, has always been referred to as "the jumping-off place". Back in the 1840's amd '50's when the first white settlers began arriving here, they understood that to mean that they were so far from civilization that they could travel no farther. They had reached the end of the road, and there were only three choices to be made: to return from whence they had come, to take root where they were, or to jump off the continent entirely.

Those who arrived here were typically free-spirited, independent folks who came looking for a new life without the constraints of polite society. One early county sheriff, Charles Green, found himself with so few demands on his time that he also added the position of assessor to his duties. While on his tax-collecting rounds, he disappeared. His remains were never recovered, and it is assumed that he was waylaid and murdered for the tax money he carried, at the time estimated to be about $2,000.00 in gold coin.

The names referenced in the cache titles and the outlaw photos are fictional and bear no relation to actual people, but the descriptive text for each cache relates factual information.
