Geocache Description:

The last prisoner in the original county jail in Oysterville was Andrew Gordon, 64 years old from Kentucky. Gordon was committed to jail on December 26, 1892. Gordon was one of six or seven men who had gathered on Christmas eve in a shanty to play cards, drink and talk. By midnight, only four men remained, William Kelly, Gordon and two other men. The two men later testified that Kelly called Gordon "a vile name", whereupon Gordon took out his revolver and shot Kelly, who fell over dead. Gordon then said "I'll shoot you too," but the witnesses who by then had sought cover underneath the bed, were unsure what Gordon meant. Gordon then walked across the street to the Lilly home, where he visited for awhile.

Apparently weighing the reputations of both men -- Kelly, a quarrelsome character, and Gordon, a good-natured church goer, and the name calling that precipitated the shooting, the jury voted 10 for acquittal, one to convict for manslaughter, and one to convict for murder in the first degree. A compromise was worked out, and Gordon was sentenced to two years hard labor at the state penitentiary in Walla Walla.

The names referenced in the cache titles and the outlaw photos are fictional and bear no relation to actual people, but the descriptive text for each cache relates factual information.
