Geocache Description:

While women prisoners were a rarity in the early days of Pacific County, they made their mark on local history. In 1905, the first female prisoner was booked into the county jail in South Bend and placed into the old steel cell, often referred to as "the cage". Kate Debeau was arrested and released the same day, the lone occupant of the jail on that day. The only notation in the jail book about her stated "insane".

Three years later, Jennie Nice was booked into the jail cell on a charge of selling liquor without a license, released 25 days later after serving her sentence. Jennie was not so fortunate as the earlier woman, Kate, as she found herself housed in the tiny cell with one Arthur Lindstrom, who was jailed for committing an assault. This was the only recorded occasion of co-mingling of the sexes in the single cell before the new jail provided separate housing for men and women.

The names referenced in the cache titles and the outlaw photos are fictional and bear no relation to actual people, but the descriptive text for each cache relates factual information.
