You are near the site of the former J. R. Whiting Generating Plant owned by Detroit Edition, which is a coal-fired power plant that operated for 64 years from 1952-2016. It generated enough electricity for 300,000 homes. The plant is in the process of being demolished. You are also very near Lake Erie, the fourth largest lake of the Great Lakes. At it's deepest point, Lake Erie is 210 feet deep. Lake Erie provides drinking water to over 11 million people. While you're here, be sure to visit GC34E, one of Michigan's older caches.
