"Captain" was a dog that my father-in-law (SageHippo's dad) bought a good number of years ago. My father-in-law had a cocker spaniel, "Noah", that had died not too long before, and "Captain", as he would become known, was a black pure-bred cocker puppy. After a short time, "Captain" came to live with us because of his long hair causing allergy problems for SageHippo's parents. They were able to get a cocker-poodle mix named "Gretel" for themselves, as poodles are known to be hypoallergenic. So this canine duo soon became known as "Handful and Gretel", considering that Captain, as a puppy, was indeed quite the handful. But around our house, "Handful" was usually just affectionately called "Dogie" (pronounced like 'dough-gee'), which is what we also called our beagle mix Beau before he died. As long as we keep to one dog at a time in our house, the dog may always be known by the nickname, 'Dogie', which is a family in-joke regarding a clip art of a dog at his water bowl that we once saw online, where instead of spelling "Doggie" on the bowl, the artist forgot a 'g' and it said, "Dogie"... which we decided to pronounce the way that we do...
Captain (which comes from the earlier long-form title 'Handful, Captain of Chaos', from his puppy days) was not much of a geo-dog, but he was a good family pet nonetheless. When our daughter (Little 'E') was born, Captain was so good about adapting to her added presence in our household, and once she became old enough to appreciate him, she absolutely adored Captain (and most other dogs that she meets at parks, trails, etc).
Captain had been on exactly one geocaching adventure with us before the placement of this cache, an afternoon trip in Maryland in the fall of 2016, and after that just one other quick visit to one of the other Dog caches that r.e.s.t.seekers placed. Regardless, it seemed like a fun idea to add our canine family friend to the mix of geocaches, and r.e.s.t.seekers was very welcoming to the idea of having more dog-related caches.
So grab your favorite geo-pup, or even if you don't have one, solve this fairly simple puzzle, and enjoy another walk in SGL 108. And if you have not already, visit Rosie while you are there. The walk is enjoyable, and your dog will like it too.
As SageHippo is a teacher of English and Literature, a simple puzzle about literary dogs seemed apt. Match the description to the dog to get the correct order for the coordinates.

This cache starts off with some doggie toys for swag, but you may feel free to trade whatever you wish in exchange for what is there. Little 'E' was really excited to help select the doggie toy swag items that were chosen to go inside during our trip to the super-mart before heading out to place this cache. When you write your log, feel free to share anything you wish about your favorite geo-dog, if you have one.
FTF may feel free to grab any swag item without a trade for the FTF prize, as this cache does not have an FTF-specific prize reserved inside.
Use the geo-checker to be sure that your answer is correct before searching and to get additional hints on how the cache is hidden.
Even without solving the puzzle, it is clear that the final coordinates are in state game lands, so PLEASE observe all state game land rules and wear orange during hunting seasons. During the primary hunting season, finding this cache is recommended on Sunday only.
