Geocache Description:

First known as the Gainesville, Ocala and Charlotte Harbor Rail Road, this aggressively constructed narrow gauge system soon changed its name to the Florida Southern Railroad.  The Gainesville to Palatka line was once a major part of the system, double-tracked almost the entire way. Sadly, now there is only a stub branch line from Hawthorne to Keuka.

Fortunately, however, this beautiful section of the old rail right-of-way has become the excellent Hawthrone Rail Trail.  At this under-utilized area is the parking area for horse access to the trail and to the Lochloosa Wildlife Conservation area.

All caches are easily accessible from the Trail.  Please be aware of your surroundings, as wildlife does share the area.  Bug spray is always a great idea, and if you intend to wander farther down the Trail, please take plenty of water.
