This is a two staged large multicache that requires visiting two locations. The first stage should be easy to find if you enter the posted coordinates and is located outdoors. The second stage is located somewhere inside the Mineral Museum and it’s only available during museum hours which is listed below. To claim this multi-cache you must sign the log.
I wanted to place a cache inside the Mineral Museum at MT Tech as a way to highlight this amazing place. I consider it a hidden gem. When visiting Butte this is a great site to stop in and see the finest examples of rock and mineral occurrences from Montana and the world! There is no admission fee, it’s free!
To complete this cache you must stop in during operating hours which are the following: Summer Hours – Daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (June 15 – September 15) and Winter Hours – Weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (September 16 - June 14).
The museum is located on the Montana Tech Campus, overlooking the historic mining city of Butte. There are two entrances to the Mineral Museum, one on the left side of the building, which provides elevator access. The other is the large wooden doors; if you choose this entrance use the middle doors. The mineral museum is located on the 3rd floor.
