Geocache Description:

This cache is accessible from the North Bend Lake, which can be accessed by parking at the Cokeley Recreation Area boat ramp and taking a boat out.  Created through a dam project in 2003, the 305 acre North Bend Lake is part of the North Fork of the Hughes River Watershed Project and is 8.1 river miles with a permanent pool of 310 feet in width.  It is essentially a flooded river channel, formerly part of the Hughe's River.  There is a boat launch, a canoe launch and two accessible fishing platforms. The lake has excellent bass, crappy, catfish, and musky fishing.  There is a 9.9 horsepower motor limit.

The North Bend Lake is well used by locals and visitors to the area, but the horsepower limit on motors make it a pleasent experience for all types of boaters and anglers.  The lake is an excellent place for wildlife observation, with Red-Headed Woodpeckers, Great Blue Herons, Green Herons, and Tree Swallows some of the most common sightings.  The wildlife is attracted to the dead tree snags that are present throughout the lake.

Please be considerate to all user groups on the lake and shoreline, including those wildlife species that call it home.

The North Bend Lake is maintained and managed through the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and North Bend State Park.  Please be respectful of the state park and help keep it clean and safe for future seekers.
