Geocache Description:

You've heard of the "Lewis & Clark" expedition. We now know that there was an earlier expedition, which passed through this very place! This is now known as the

BASSO AND CLARK EXPEDITION OF 1787

The Basso and Clark Expedition was led by Colonel Gustavo Basso V, and his friend Major Bill Clark. The trip was commissioned by none other than George Washington. The two were commissioned to map out the western parts of the U.S., and suggest a possible stagecoach route.

The problem is, Basso and Clark simply disappeared! They never returned from their journey. Until recently, no one knew what happened to the pair.

Fortunately, rangers in the East Bay Parks recently found evidence that the team had camped in this park. It's even possible that Basso and Clark met their end right here.

We need your help. Historians at the Basso Historical Institute are eager to document all artifacts of this expedition. Please do not remove any of the artifacts, or disturb any grave sites. Instead, optionally post a photo of your team with the artifact.

This trail is now officially designated the "Basso and Clark" National Momument. If you wish to register as a tour docent, or open a franchise within the park, please enquire at their visitor center. Parking is free at the Monument Visitor Center and Gift Shop, near the trailhead on Dry Creek Drive., near Inspiration Circle.

Note: We believe Basso & Clark used this location as a recreational area, to sit around the campfire, perhaps playing on crude musical instruments--maybe a guitar or a primitive flute. So far, we cannot verify this theory. Please help us find any artifacts related to the group's musical habits. Did Basso & Clark play instruments? What kind of music did they listen to?

Enjoy your journey ino the past, and thank you for visiting the Basso and Clark Expedition!
