SPIDER-MAN aka Peter Parker, Miles Morales
Debut: Amazing Fantasy #15 (1962)
Home: New York City
Likes: Great power, great responsibility
Dislikes: Goblins, editors
Just as a viral concept, Spiderman was a boundary-bursting phenomenon in 1962. His powers are gross and grand: He spins webs (ewww!) to swing Tarzan-style through the urban jungle (whoa!). Most superheroes have big muscles and granite chins, but Spidey's all long limbs and expressively oversize white eyes. Yet the brilliant secret of Spider-man is that he is his own creation: a melancholy loner's escapist fantasy - literally a boy pretending to be a (Spider-)man. In his origin story, all that grown-up fun goes to Peter Parker's head - with tragic, Uncle Ben-killing consequences. So Spider-man's stories are less about super-cool powers than relatable pressures: money problems, romantic problems, filial-piety problems (Aunt May, sick again!), laundry problems. The Everyguy spirit transcends Spidey's original alter ego. In 2011, Marvel introduced Miles Morales, a high schooler inspired by Peter's example - and a cause celebre in the internet's crusade against #SuperheroesSoWhite. There's a reason the wall-crawler evokes such passion. He's the superhero for people who love superheroes, a regular guy who saves the city but always struggles to pay the rent. Most superheroes are aspirational. Spidey is the hero who aspires.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Note For New Geocachers:
Join us and enjoy some adventures of Geocaching. Please don't move or vandalize the container; simply replace the geocache where and how you found it. Before you leave, make sure the geocache is completely out of sight. The real treasure is discovering the location, signing the log book, trading even or up with personal SWAG and sharing your experience with everyone online in your "found it" log. You might even find a trackable item!
Note For All Geocachers:
In your log, please indicate the condition of the container without giving any clues to its hiding spot. (post no spoilers please) This will assist with my maintenance to help provide a pleasant experience for future seekers. Please replace the container in the same hiding spot as you found it. If the container is not found, please log your DNF and do not replace the geocache with a "throw down."
Which Log Type To Use:
Please use the appropriate log type that best describes your seeking experience for this geocaching.
