Foley's Revitalization and Beautification Advisory Board installed a statue called "Slugger", donated by the family of the late Melvin Roberts, at this park.
It is the first of many bronze statues that will be placed around the city, including one at Foley Public Library and another at the dog park.
The park is named after Roberts, who died at the age of 97 in 2009. He worked in the city parks department for roughly 30 years. He lived across the street from the Cedar Street park for decades until his death.- Taken from City of Foley Website
