About In the Heart of Hoosierland

This cache commemorates Louis L. Ludlow, born 1873 in Fairview Township, Fayette County, Indiana. He grew up just a couple of miles northeast of this cache.  In 1925 Mr. Ludlow published “In the Heart of Hoosierland”, a book about the stories of Indiana pioneers.  Many of his experiences growing up in western Fayette County in the 1800s are loosely told in his book.  He went on to be elected to the US Congress in 1928 as a representative of Indiana’s 7th district.  Before his career in politics, he was a political correspondent in Washington D.C., which he resumed after leaving office in 1949.

Louis Ludlow died in 1950 and is buried in Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington D.C.
