This northeast corner of the entrance to the city of Pillager once was occupied by a gas station (one of 5) and home owned by the Gerrels family. It was one of the first to get electricity in this area. When Elsie and his twin sister were born in 1934, two pine trees were planted in their honor. Through the years and demolition of the old home and gas station on this site, much of this corner has change but these two trees can still be seen. Elsie Gerrels went on to work as an engineer on some of the early space exploration conducted by NASA.
