Geocache Description:

Learn about Pillager history through a series of cache placed at significant historical spots in our community. This is stop #16

At least the fourth bridge at this spot, here stands the Crow Wing River bridge. Early in Pillager's history there was a ferry that crossed at this point. Pictures show people crossing the river with merchandise from the local general stores. It is said that the Bacon store gave free "tickets" to the ferry if they would use his store. Many local residents also talk about Rudie Sandberg who moved several homes across the river by plowing the snow off the ice so that it would freeze really deep. At least a couple of these homes were relocated in Pillager.
