Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Tushingham Bells Geocache.

The cache is a micro magnetic container located near to the Blue Bell Inn, Tushingham.

The cache sits between Bell Farm and the Blue Bell Inn, in a part of Tushingham signposted as Bell o’ th’ Hill. A theory surrounding the name Bell o’ th’ Hill states it may come from the statement “Bell on the Hill”, referring to the pub. However the gatehouse-gazetteer.info website states a possibility of the name referring to the shape of the land, being dome (or bell) shaped.

The pub is a 16th century pub and is said to have previously been haunted. There is a story of the ghost of a duck riding carriages down the road after it was run over. This ghost was exercised and placed in a bottle buried in the cellar. Inside there is also a display case with some old artefacts. Unfortunately as of 2017 the pub is currently closed.

At the location you will find an information board for the Sandstone Trail. The area is listed as a possible start, finish or mid-point for walkers of this nearby long distance route. It runs from Frodsham, Cheshire to the North, to Whitchurch, Shropshire to the South. Featuring the Peckforton Hills, Beeston Castle, Delamere Forest and Maiden Castle (on Bickerton Hill) it is well worth the challenge. Further information about the trail can be found at sandstonetrail.com and the information board near the parking location. Another long distance route: the Bishop Bennet Way also crosses the cache location. Why not make the cache part of a walk on some of these fantastic routes.
